Raghunath Jew College (RJC), Cuttack retained the title in the Utkal University Inter-College Men’s Football Tournament, trouncing Sarankul College, Odagaon (Nayagarh) 6-0 in the lop-sided inter-zonal final at Vani Vihar here today. RJC also achieved a hat-trick by emerging champions for the third year in a row.
Earlier in the semifinals, RJC edged out JKBK College (Cuttack) 7-6 in tie-breaker, while Sarankul College prevailed over Byasanagar College (Jajpur Road) 3-2. Organised by Utkal University Sports Council (UUSC), the tournament commenced with zonal competitions at S N College (Raj Kanika), Ranpur College and Vani Vihar on January 3.
The champion and runner-up teams from each zone played the inter-zone tournament here from January 8. Altogether 656 players from 41 colleges participated in the tournament. Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Prof Ashok Kumar Das handed over the trophy in the closing ceremony. UUSC Director Prof Jayant Kumar Parida, Prof Kishore Kumar Basa and Physical Education Officer Ambika Prasad Ray were present on the occasion.
